Two Rocks: This 25KVA gen set was shutting down after 5 minutes run time. The problem was diagnosed to a faulty temperature guage- not indicating that the diesel motor was overheating and shutting down automatically. The problem was identified and rectified, as well as the generator electrics, serviced tested and made safe with 2 days notice before shipping off to a job in the Pilbara.
Two Rocks: 25KVA gen set. Ignition system re-wired, Voltage and frequency adjusted, indicators, switches, circuit protection and outlets renewed as required, unit load tested and certified electrically safe for use: (As well as the coolant hoses replaced and the radiator topped up).

Craigie 1 of 2: Burnt out solar PV isolation circuit breaker.Craigie 2 of 2: The curcuit breaker terminal melted in use. Most likely caused by the installer not properly tightening the terminal screw.Currambine 1 of 2: Burnt out main terminal block of a 12KW single phase rotisserie. The terminals were rated for 35A and had a 50A load – they overheated and arced taking out the power to the entire restaurant. North Beach: Pyrolysis of the roof beam due to heat from a halogen downlight. This is both a fire and structural risk that should never have been installed like this. The installation breaches both Electrical and Building standards.
Applecross: This SHARP solar PV inverter has a d-27 fault – faulty relay unit – that is not economical to repair.Applecross: We supplied and installed a replacement SunnyBoy WIFI enabled inverter unit (German made). We also installed surge diverters to reduce the risk of future power surges damaging the household appliances.Greenwood: Commercial stud wall pre-wire in progress.Kinross: New oven instaled as part of the kitchen / dining room renovation.Joondalup: Ensuite pre-wire before the new ceiling went in.

Ridgewood: Non compliant spa pool electrical equipment (Before).
Ridegewood: AS/NSZ 3000 (IP55) compliant enclosure, switches. timer and power outlet outside of spa pool damp zone 1. (After).Northbridge: Burnt out 15A outlet and plug. The comercial bain-marie was drawing 18A on warm up with the heat lamps on. The circuit and connection were upgraded to 20A.Fremantle: Faulty bain-marie simmerstat. The same unit previously had burned wiring due to poor terminations. A common fault.Ocean Reef: Shed wire. Electrical and comms cabled as well as pool equipment wiring.
North Fremantle: No wonder the RCD tripped: Wasps made a home out of the back of this power point.
Marangaroo: Solar electric booster not working. 1 of 2.Marangaroo: Solar electric booster 2 of 2. The incoming power termination was burned out: We come across quite a few of this kind of fault where the original installer hasn’t properly terminated the cables.
A/C ducting beforeA/C ducting repaired – good to go. (The wiring was subsequently tidied up as well)
Clarkson: SILAIR compressor burned out. One of the start relays burned out due to age-wear and overloading. The overloading was caused by the start capacitor losing it’s capacitance. Both caps were reading 20% under their rated capacitance. The caps and the start relay were replaced for a fraction of the cost of a new compressor.
Clarkson: SILAIR compressor: Here we are testing the power and earth leakage of the repaired compressor. All Good.Attadale: 90s VALET intercom front station faulty. We have repaired or replaced a few of these that tend to corrode after about 15 years. This one was repaired.Attadale: VALET intercom. You can see the corrosion of the terminals – it extends through to the electronics behind.
Joondalup: Another dead VALET intercom unit – this one internal. About half we come across can be repaired, and the other half we replace the entire system.
East Fremantle: Faulty BTCINO audio intercom. The unit was full of ants that had shorted out a couple of the connections damaging the master unit in the ceiling.East Fremantle: Indoor unit of the faulty BTCINO set.
Karawarra: Bore pump contactor burn out. Julian noticed the power bill had jumped. On testing it was found that his submersible bore pump was on continuously. It turned out that the irrigation controller (sprinkler timer) was rapidly switching the control output to the contactor and the subsequent arcing at the contactor terminals welded them together leaving the contactor permanently on. So the faulty irrigation controller caused the pump power contactor to burn out and weld ON, causing his power bill to skyrocket. Just lucky the submersible pump survived.Karawarra: Bore pump controller with new pump power contactor – we also replaced the pump run cap just to be on the safe side.
Wanneroo: Faulty 3 bay deep fryer. Sarah called us in after their was an almighty flash out of the control panel.Wanneroo: Back panel of the 4 bay deep fryer. There was at least 10 years of fat and oil build up that caused a short and flash tripping the 32A circuit breaker and melting the 100A main switch. The unit was cleaned and partially re-wired to be safe to operate again.
Armadale: original VIR (Vitreous Indian Rubber) wiring of a 40’s cottage. You can also see the original ceramic cable clamps. This wiring loses it’s insulation becoming an extreme electric shock and fire hazard. The owner (Harsha) got us to remove all the non compliant VIR and re-wire the house, We also upgraded the switch board and protective devices to current AS/NZS standards.Armadale: Old style ‘open’ type asbestos backed consumer meter panel and switch board. Electrical contractors are no longer allowed to upgrade these boards – rather they have to be removed and replaced with an enclosed type board.Armadale: Meter panel and consumer switch board replacement in progress.
Armadale: Completed new meter panel and switch board. The house was re-connected the same day we informed Western Power of the job completion.

The initialism RCBO stands for Residual Current circuit Breaker with Overload. This type of DIY installation is downright dangerous and does not comply with the Australian Standards.Old wiring with no earth connections: If your home, office or factory is over 30 years old you should have the entire electrical installation inspected and tested. It is hard to tell but it looks like either the earth wires were never connected or all of the copper conductors have completely corroded away. This one house in Quinns Rocks had 4 earth breaks with only one power point earthed.
